Geography and Location
Located just across the Cooper River from Charleston, the historic town of Mt. Pleasant was founded in 1680.

There are also port facilities and boat repairs. The manufacturing industry includes marine equipments, plastic products, signs, and seafood processing.

One of the most popular traditions is the weaving of baskets. It is a 300-year-old tradition where weaving is made out of local marsh grass and sweet grass.
